My Story
Corning has always been home. I was born and raised here, and after pursuing my education and serving our country, my wife and I made the deliberate decision to return to Corning to build our lives and raise our family. We believe there is no better place to call home, and I want to contribute to the community that has given so much to us.
My commitment to public service began with the New York Army National Guard, where I served alongside men and women dedicated to serving something greater than themselves. During my time in the Guard, I provided military honors to veterans and their families, assisted communities during hurricane response efforts, and deployed overseas in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Those experiences reinforced the importance of service, personal responsibility, teamwork, and leadership.
Education has also played an important role in preparing me for public service. I earned both my Master of Business Administration and my Juris Doctor, believing that an understanding of business, finance, and the law would allow me to better serve my community. Those experiences taught me the importance of thoughtful planning, responsible budgeting, and practical problem-solving.
Today, I have the privilege of serving the people of Chemung County as an attorney. My work requires me to listen carefully, analyze complex issues, apply the law fairly, and make decisions based on facts and established principles.
My approach to local government is grounded in the belief that government should be limited, accountable, and responsive to the people it serves. I value individual freedom and personal responsibility, respect for private property, fiscal discipline, and local decision-making. I believe government has an important role to play in providing essential public services and maintaining the community, but that role should be clearly defined, responsibly administered, and accountable to taxpayers.
For me, local government is also about keeping decisions as close to the people as possible. The people who live, work, raise families, and own property in the Town of Corning have a direct stake in its future. Their voices, concerns, and priorities should remain central to the decisions made by their local government.
If elected to the Town Board, I would bring my legal, business, and public-service experience to that work while remaining open to different perspectives and willing to consider the facts before making decisions. My goal is to contribute to a town government that is transparent, fiscally responsible, respectful of individual rights, and focused on the practical needs of the community.
I am not running because I think I have all the answers. I am running because I care deeply about Corning, believe in public service, and want to contribute to the community where my family has chosen to build its future.
Sincerely,
Nicholas J. Tammaro
